Lan Tianyang

Lan Tianyang is Professor of Practice in Popular Vocal Performance at California College of Music and a highly influential vocal educator in contemporary popular music.

 

He has served as Vocal Director, vocal coach, and a member of the expert observation panel for Singer on Hunan TV, one of the world’s leading televised music competition programs. He formerly served as a Council Member of the First Council of the Chinese Association of Arts Medicine and as a Standing Committee Member of its Artistic Voice Committee, and has long served as a judge for CCTV’s Global Chinese Music Chart. In addition, he has maintained long-term professional collaborations with major television and digital media platforms in China, while also serving as a designated singing consultant and vocal coach for artists from multiple domestic and international entertainment companies.

 

Among the singers and artists he has taught and coached are many established stars and leading performers from China and abroad, a number of whom regularly headline their own arena-scale and large stadium concerts. His teaching is distinguished by its integration of vocal technique, diction training, stylistic development, artistic expression, and stage performance, forming a highly distinctive and influential pedagogical system.

 

Lan Tianyang is also the author of the widely influential book Popular Singing Foundation Course. His academic article, “Integrating Chinese Operatic Vocal Techniques into Contemporary Commercial Music Pedagogy: The Lan Tianyang Cross-System Vocal Training Model,” has also been accepted for publication in the Journal of Voice, further demonstrating the international recognition of both his pedagogical system and his scholarly work.
