6 Quarters / 18 Months

Highlights of the Associate Degree program include:

Contemporary Ensemble, where students gain experience performing in a band with their peers. Students suggest and vote on repertoire for the group to perform and take the stage at a public venue at the end of each quarter.

Getting Started in the Music Business, where students explore branding and self-promotion using social media and other internet tools. They also develop release plans for their own music and discuss whom to approach about professional opportunities and how.

Professional Showcase & Jury, the program’s capstone course and an opportunity for students in their final quarter of study to apply all they’ve learned to arranging music for, performing in, and leading a band of their peers. The cohort books and promotes a final concert at a public venue to display their work.

Studio Recording Techniques/Sessions, a two-course track where students learn to harness the power of the recording studio and apply their music technology knowledge to creating polished recordings of their own material.

10. Foster fluency in music theory, including advanced harmonies.
11. Strengthen ear training skills, including chord recognition and harmonic dictation.
12. Instill nuanced understanding of rhythm and rhythmic accuracy.
13. Develop real-time sight-reading and/or sight-singing abilities.
14. Establish intermediate keyboard proficiency for all musicians.
15. Provide strong skills and qualifications for careers in modern popular music.
